BOOST

My son, Lucas, is an 11-year old student in the new BOOST Conductive Education Classroom at Cypress School that combines academics with Conductive Education.  When he attended his first BOOST Summer Program in 2015, I joked that my three goals for Lucas were “potty training, potty training, and potty training.”  Our more realistic goals for Lucas were for him to increase his stamina for walking short distances, increase his strength, and increase his independence.

The days Lucas spent were filled with activities including working on foot placement for stable sitting and walking with parallel bars.  I watched him become more confident to the point where he was asking to walk everywhere with assistance instead of being carried.  This was the beginning of a significant lifestyle change for our family.  By the final week, Lucas had met his realistic goals and, much to our surprise, was using the bathroom with minimal assistance.

Now that he is enrolled in the new BOOST Classroom for the 2018-19 school year, Lucas is receiving a movement program throughout the day integrated with individualized academics.  When I hear Lucas say, “I can do it,” it is a direct reflection of the core values of BOOST Conductive Education.  His confidence means the world to me as his mother.  We are so grateful for this program and the special people behind it that make a difference every day.

Sincerely,

Angie Lucas
